About

Helping to keep Lexington’s Meadowthorpe neighborhood distinctive since 2011.

ABOUT US:
We have 14,993 great looking, quality used books and 7 really, really ugly ones. Many are discontinued and hard to find, ranging from old sci-fi, to mysteries, to westerns, cookbooks, biographies, etc. We’re not antiquarians, but we do have a handful of old and rare books. Many of our older children’s books are simply gorgeous! And all are reasonably priced – you just won’t know what you’ll find until you come check us out.
We also offer several dozen brand new books, mostly in contemporary fiction and if we don’t have it then we’d be more than happy to order it for you, used or brand new.
And don’t forget the coffee! We are converting serious coffee drinkers over to our quality, fair-trade beans on a daily basis! We’re not a full-service coffee shop (YET!), but we’re growing towards it everyday. We grind and brew 2 distinctive beans every morning; our Dopest Ethiopian is our daily house coffee – it is smooth, never burned, and never bitter.  Our second daily offering is a rotation of other freshly-brewed beans: Frank Sumatra, Tanzanian NightenGayl, JuJu Peru, and on rare occasions, Royal Kona.
Also at your service are our squad of Bigelow Hot Teas and our platoon of ice-cold and caffeine-free Rooibee Red Teas (the Cranberry Pomegranate is very, very nice; i’m drinking one right now!)
Plus, the cookies are free.

THE WILD FIG BOOKS BOOK BUYING POLICY:

It begins with you, our patrons, rummaging through your shelves, book-bags, and night-stands for the books you love (or hate!) and are ready to part ways with… …it helps if you first dust them off, removing the cobwebs, pet hairs and other weird fibers and fabrics ‘mysteriously’ attached to them like those little extraterrestrial hand-claw-like things from the movie Alien – if your book resembles an alien life form or ebola, then chances are we won’t even touch it. We have no immediate preference in the types or genres of books we’re looking for, but it at all begins with it being in pretty good shape – cleanliness affects its value and we offer less in return for books that need a lot of nurturing prior to achieving resale condition. And unless it knows a Jedi mind trick or two, books that are heavily written in, that have deep creases, are extremely worn, and have torn/missing pages will not be accepted. (notice how the last sentenced ended with a ‘.’)

Although we don’t have a preference for the types of books we take, we do have a list of genres WE TAKE LESS OF, primarily dealing with non-fiction books of psychology, business & finance, organized religion, self-help, political science, and current affairs. Unless it’s considered ‘a classic’ in its field then these types of books become dated very quickly; by rule of thumb, we will not take any that are older than 5 years old because they do not sale. Also, we are very reluctant to take romance novels or urban lit because most of them are cheaply made and don’t hold up very well for long and can be purchased for much less by stores that specialize in them.

After value is assessed, we offer two forms of payout: the first is with IN-STORE CREDIT which is half the amount we hope to sell the newly acquired used books for. In-store credit is good for the purchasing of used-books only and CAN NOT be used for the purchasing of brand new books, drinks or other items. It is good indefinitely; please, remember to bring your trade-credit slip with you as up-to-date records are not kept on the premises. The other payout option is with cash. Cash value is set at ONE-FIFTH the resale price. Either way, greatest value is given to the newer releases in best physical shape. Outside of selling your book to your best friend or family member, we offer the best commercial resale value for your books; if we take 5 books out of the 20 you bring in, it is still a better cash value given to you than the places that would take all 20 books for a flat fee. Contact us if you have questions.

  1. Hello Wild Fig Bookstore

I am looking for a used or former library copies of Papers of Henry Clay. Here are the volumes I am looking for:

Volumes 2, 5 and the Supplemental Volume. Or is there another store or a used library bookstore in Lexington that has used copies.

Thank you for your kind assistance. I look forward to your reply.

    Cheers,

    • Hello Stuart

Currently, we don’t have any of the Papers of Henry Clay; any Clay material is snatched up almost as quickly as it arrives (which so far isn’t as often as we’d like).
Usually we redirect our customers to online searches for the rarer materials they seek, but if they’re unable to do so then we offer to do so for them, ordering used
or brand new material on their behalf. We’d be happy to perform that service for you, if necessary; this typically requires a deposit beforehand. Please feel free to
contact us on facebook, by email at wildfigbooks@gmail.com or here at our site for further details.

      Thank you,
      Ron Davis.
